Luxury hospitality brand Waldorf Astoria is set to arrive in the Finnish market in 2025, as Hilton announces the rebranding of The Hotel Maria in Helsinki into Waldorf Astoria Helsinki. The transformation marks the brand’s first property in Finland and a milestone expansion into the Nordic region.
Waldorf Astoria is Hilton’s luxury brand. It has 67 hotels around the world, with 34 currently open and 33 under development. Hilton has entered a management agreement with M&L Group, a Singapore-based real estate investment company and the current owner of The Hotel Maria.
In June, Olympic champion and investor Samppa Lajunen’s real estate investment company, Samla Capital, announced that it would write down the fund holdings and investments related to the hotel. As a result, Samla Capital is no longer involved in the operational activities of the hotel or the property company.
The hotel is situated in Helsinki’s historic Kruununhaka district, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods known for its architectural beauty and proximity to major cultural landmarks. The Hotel Maria has been marketed as an “ultraluxury” destination and officially opened in late 2023.
Once rebranded, Waldorf Astoria Helsinki will offer 116 guest rooms and suites, signature dining experiences, a refined bar and lounge, a fitness studio, and a Nordic wellness spa complete with a traditional Finnish sauna.
The hotel is expected to remain operational throughout a short transitional phase before officially adopting the Waldorf Astoria name later this year.
