Turun Osuuskauppa (TOK), a regional cooperative belonging to the nationwide S Group retail chain, has solidified its role as a key player in the Finnish retail landscape by acquiring full ownership of Shopping Center Mylly. Based in Southwest Finland, TOK operates a wide network of grocery stores, restaurants, cafés, and service stations across the region. The acquisition marks a strategic move that strengthens its presence in one of the busiest commercial zones in the country.
Shopping Center Mylly is located in Raisio, just outside the city of Turku—the capital of Southwest Finland and a major urban hub. Mylly is situated at the intersection of two major highways, Route 8 and Route 40 (E18), offering excellent accessibility by car and public transportation. Its prime location draws shoppers not only from Raisio and Turku but also from surrounding municipalities such as Naantali, Kaarina, and even further afield across the Turku economic region. This makes Mylly a vital commercial and social anchor for a catchment area with hundreds of thousands of residents.
Since its opening in 2001, Shopping Center Mylly has established itself as a major retail destination in Raisio. The center features over 150 shops and encompasses a total floor area of approximately 83,000 square meters. In 2023, Mylly reached record-breaking milestones in both sales and visitor numbers. From January to July alone, around 3 million people visited the center—an increase of 9% compared to the same period the previous year. Sales during that period totaled €140.5 million, up 7% year-over-year.
Niklas Österlund, CEO of Turun Osuuskauppa, emphasized that complete ownership will allow TOK to further develop the center in a more customer-centric and competitive direction. Among the future plans are the modernization of the Myllyntori square into a vibrant meeting and event space, as well as an update to the Prisma Mylly concept to better reflect the needs of today’s shoppers.
