Helsingin ylioppilaskunnan (HYY) owned real estate company Ylva has agreed to sell the C and D buildings of the Domus Academica property in Leppäsuo, near Kamppi in Helsinki, to Unity Living, which is owned by Brookfield and MESH Student. The transaction concludes HYY’s broader restructuring of its real estate debt situation.

The sold property currently consists mainly of rental student apartments, and the buyer intends to continue operating the buildings as student housing in the future. The property now being sold includes 229 rental apartments as well as restaurant, office, and retail premises.

The original Domus Academica complex consists of four buildings. The A and B buildings were previously sold to the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region (Hoas), and they also continue to serve as student housing. The C and D buildings of Domus Academica were completed in 1952 and 1968. Over the years, the premises have housed not only student accommodation but also a student library, university lecture and reading halls, and a hostel.

Fokus Nordic has previously supported the development of earlier Unity projects in Tampere and Helsinki’s Jätkäsaari district under the previous ownership structure and is continuing the collaboration with Unity Living and its owners, Brookfield and MESH Student, as Domus Academica enters a new era.

The parties have agreed that the purchase price will remain undisclosed.
