K-Citymarket and Rusta will open new stores in the Taanila commercial district in Ylivieska. The new leases are part of WasaGroup’s development of a nearly 11,000 m² commercial building in the area. Future phases of the retail center’s development still offer opportunities for additional businesses to join.
Ylivieska is a growing regional center in Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland, with a population of approximately 15,000 residents. It serves as a key commercial and service hub for a broader catchment area of over 80,000 people. The city is well-connected by road and rail, located roughly 130 km south of Oulu, 200 km north of Jyväskylä, and 120 km east of Kokkola. This strategic location enhances its appeal for retail and commercial investments.
Construction of a new K-Citymarket hypermarket, set to replace the existing store in Ylivieska, will begin in the Taanila area this summer. The opening is scheduled for 2026. The project supports Kesko’s broader growth strategy, which includes upgrading existing stores and expanding into key growth centers with new grocery outlets.
The new K-Citymarket will cover approximately 7,800 m², making it significantly larger than the current store in the Savari district in Ylivieska. With over 1,500 m² of additional retail space, the new location will offer a much broader range of products. The existing Citymarket property is owned by Cibus.
Rusta, a Nordic discount chain specializing in home décor, renovation, consumer goods, and seasonal items, will open a new store in the same building as K-Citymarket. The new location will also feature an outdoor garden retail area of around 800 m² to support its seasonal product range.
